Bipolar Disorder Disability Claim

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that makes it extremely difficult for many patients to perform daily tasks and next to impossible to perform at a high-level occupation. The National Institute of Mental Health describes bipolar disorder as involving clear changes in mood, energy and activity levels. The intensity of the periods shifts from up, where happiness is taken to extremes and people feel elated and energized—manic—to down, where sufferers are extremely depressed and hopeless. This is often referred to as depressive episodes.

Diagnosis and treatment can help some people with bipolar disorder, but some require lifelong care and medication. While some may manage working with this condition, others are no longer able to continue.

If you believe that you may be suffering from bipolar disorder and it is impacting your ability to perform the tasks and duties of your occupation, you may need to consider filing a long-term disability insurance claim. Mental health disorders can be challenging for claimants, and disability insurance companies may not accept your claim at first. We can help develop your claim support. Further information about bipolar disability may be found at the National Alliance on Mental Health.
