Nationwide Leaders in Disability Insurance Law

shook hands

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

We have represented many CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) claimants, battling against insurance company adjusters who insist that our clients are not truly disabled, that their illness is not physical in nature, or that they are suffering from a syndrome and not an illness.

Now, a new study conducted by researchers at the Whittemore Peterson Institute in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute and the Cleveland Clinic, may have uncovered the source of this debilitating disease, which affects more than 17 million people worldwide.

This new research supports the idea that CFS may be a disease caused by a retrovirus, XMRV, which was found to be in more than 95% of the 200 patients’ blood samples in a study group. Patients in the study all had physician’s diagnosis of CFS. XMRV is the most recent retrovirus discovered to infect humans and has been linked to neurological disease and prostate cancer. The current thinking in the medical community is that an XMRV infection causes chronic inflammation and immune deficiency. This is a major discovery that opens an entirely new window into neuro-immune disease research and possible treatments.

While there are thousands of research papers proving the medical problems experienced by CFS patients, many misinformed individuals and insurance companies still refuse to believe that this is very real and very serious disease.

To learn more about this exciting study, visit the Whittemore Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease and the National Institutes for Health.

If you are suffering from CFS and your disability insurance company is trying to deny your claim because they do not consider CFS an illness, call our office. Now, more than ever, you are not alone in this battle.
