As you prepare to gather with friends and family for this Thanksgiving holiday, all of us at Frankel & Newfield wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, and hope that you celebrate the day surrounded by those you love in a safe and comforting environment.
There are special concerns that accompany the holiday season when it comes to long term disability insurance claims. Unfortunately, they are still relevant.
The holiday season presents opportunities for surveillance videos to be made that could be used against your claim. We have advised about this before, and this year you need to be even more cautious. You may not see a drone circling overhead as you take a short walk outside or an unmarked van parked near your home, but if you are on claim, be mindful about your level of activity outside of the privacy of your home.
This is also the last possible time of year when you would expect letters denying claims or terminating benefits to be sent out by the same insurance companies whose commercials feature heartwarming holiday messages. Unfortunately, November and December are not considered off limits in the disability insurance world. This is there end of year push to close claims, so please do not help them in this endeavor.
The most important thing we want you to know if you receive a letter denying or terminating your long-term disability claim: there are strict time limits to appeal denials and terminations. If you receive a letter to this effect and set it aside until after the holiday season, you may find yourself with little or no time to reply. Once the time limits have been exceeded, you may have permanently lost the ability to fight back.
We understand this is the last thing you want to deal with during any time of the year, and especially so during the holiday season. Our recommendation is simple: call our office at 877-LTD-CLAIM (877-583-2524) to learn how we can help protect you, your family and your disability claim.
