How To Choose A Disability Insurance Lawyer

Friday, May 11th, 2012

Choosing a disability insurance lawyer to represent your claim when it has been denied or delayed or when you want to find out about a lump sum settlement is not always easy.

Justin Frankel and Jason Newfield have been representing disability insurance claimants for decades and have seen many lawyers enter the field in recent years. Here’s what you need to know to make a smart selection of someone who is going to represent your legal needs:

  • How long have they been practicing in the area of disability insurance law?
  • Do they represent ONLY plaintiffs, or do they represent insurance companies also?
  • How many lump sum settlements have they succeeded in obtaining for clients?
  • What’s their track record against the big companies, like CIGNA, MetLife and Hartford?
  • If you have a UNUM policy, do they know the company’s history or have some involvement with the class action lawsuit that took place in the late 1990s?
  • Do they do the actual work, or will you be passed along to another law firm or to a junior associate?
  • Do they speak before professional groups, including other lawyers?
  • Are they rated by Martindale-Hubblell®, and what is their rating?
  • Are they a Super Lawyer?
  • Have they been singled out as leaders by any local organizations?
  • Disability insurance law is complex and challenging, even to other lawyers. If you have any questions about how to choose a disability insurance lawyer, call our office.
